What can I expect in an initial session?
Your first session at Rose Counseling is designed to help you feel comfortable, understood, and supported as we begin working together. It’s an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you and for you to learn more about how therapy can help you reach your goals.
During this session, your therapist will:
Explore what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it
Review your personal history, current challenges, and any symptoms you’re experiencing
Discuss confidentiality, consent, and what to expect from the therapeutic process
Begin setting goals and talking about what meaningful progress might look like for you
It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous—many people do at first. There’s no rush to share everything right away; you set the pace, and your therapist will meet you with compassion, curiosity, and care.
This session is also a time for you to ask questions and get a sense of whether the therapist feels like the right fit. From the very beginning, our goal is to ensure you feel safe, respected, and truly heard in your therapeutic journey.
Will my appointment be covered by insurance?
Counseling is covered by the vast majority of insurance plans. If you have specific questions about your coverage, including co-payments or deductible amounts, we ask that you contact your insurance carrier.

What if I want to only do once per month?
Confidentiality means that what you share in therapy stays private. Your therapist will not share information about you without your written consent, except in specific situations required by law, such as if there is concern about your safety or the safety of someone else, or if there is suspected abuse or neglect or if records are subpoenaed by a court of law.
At Rose Counseling, we take your privacy seriously and create a space where you can speak openly and honestly, knowing your personal information is protected and respected. We practice in accordance with HIPAA and professional ethical standards.
What should I do if I’m in crisis or need immediate help?
Rose Counseling is not a crisis center and we do not offer emergency services. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, please use one of the following resources to get the support you need right away:
Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room
Crisis Services of Western New York: Call (716) 834-3131 (24/7)

Once you're safe, you’re welcome to reach out to us for ongoing support. Therapy can be a vital part of recovery, but it is not a substitute for emergency care.
What treatment models are used to support clients in GLP-1 counseling?
At Rose Counseling, our GLP-1 counseling integrates both emotional and behavioral support to help clients navigate the physical and psychological changes that can come with GLP-1 treatment. We draw from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address thought patterns around body image and food, Mindfulness-Based Therapy to support awareness and self-compassion, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to strengthen motivation and confidence in making sustainable lifestyle changes.
Our approach is client-centered and holistic, focusing on the whole person not just weight or medication outcomes, so clients feel empowered, balanced, and supported throughout their wellness journey.
